Buying a motorcycle can be confusing! There are so many different types of bikes on the market nowadays, how do you know which one is for you? There are 5 "categories" that most bikes will fall into. Lets look further into them,

Standard: A standard motorcycle generally has a mid range performance engine. They often look sporty but they are not as "high strung" as a sport bike. You typically sit in an upright position.

Touring: Touring motorcycles have powerful engines that allow you to tour wherever your destination is. They are larger bikes and often are made for an additional passenger.

Sportbike: Sport bikes are mainly designed for high speeds and performance. They are built with a lot of power, speed and handling agility. You will have a forward leaning riding position.

Cruiser: Cruisers are equipped with a large engine for low speed torque and a low seat. You will sit back in a relaxed riding position and your feet will be closer to the ground.

Dual Sport: Dual sport motorcycles are built lighter and taller so they can be ridden on non paved roads and have everything necessary to ride on pavement as well.

Once you get yourself familiar with the different types of motorcycles, ask yourself the question "What kind of riding do I want to do?".  Hopefully you can narrow it down to just a couple of those categories that best fit you. Next, find a dealer and start looking at motorcycles! At River Valley, we recognize that people will fall into each one of the categories listed above so we have a model to fit whatever kind of riding you want to do. We have also realized we need to offer affordable and user-friendly bikes for the new class of riders.
